As of April 7, 2024 Northside Friends are meeting at Chicago Friends School, 5944 N Magnolia Ave. We’re delighted to amplify our relationship with this enduring community partner.
Another long-standing community partner, the Japanese American Service Committee, hosted NFM for more than 20 years and will be moving to a wonderful new building later this year. We will always value our bond with JASC, but ultimately Spirit led us to a new location.
Every Committee at NFM was involved in the process, with the Search for a New Home and House Committees carrying a heroic majority of the burden. All through March Friends reorganized and refreshed our Library and packed up the accumulation of 25 years residence at JASC. The orange chairs were donated to immigrant assistance programs (where they’re needed) and House Committee found a set of preferable chairs (with armrests and padding!). Technology Committee sought, collected, and installed new equipment. Now that we’re settled we can focus on refinements to make our new home more accessible: a ramp for better physical access, and hearing-assistive technology.
Mega-kudos to all Friends who fostered and furthered this monumental task! with special thanks to Friends from other ILYM Meetings who held us in the Light through this process – their support was tangible and valuable. It takes a village, they say, and our village stepped up when called! Truly, Northside is a place where we can “do hard things together with joy”.
